Sun Damage Laser Treatment

Sun or Age spots are concentrated areas of high amounts of melanin in the cells of the epidermis. They are driven upwards to the surface of the skin through natural cell renewal and a sun spot appears. Sun spots are caused by UV (mostly UVA) rays, hormones and genetics.

The Apogee Elite laser is designed to permanently treat superficial brown blemishes such as sun spots by targeting the melanin in the skin through a specific wavelength and breaking it down without damaging the surrounding tissue. Immediately after your treatment, spots will appear darker and flaky and will heal after several days by flaking off. It generally takes 3 weeks for skin to be completely healed and ready for re treatment.

Improvement should be seen after a single treatment however multiple treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart may be required to achieve desired results.

Pricing for pigmented lesions is $275 per treatment. We invite you to book a complimentary consultation if you are considering treatment for sun / age spots via our website: BOOK NOW

The day of your treatment, do not apply any creams to the treatment area. Ensure that you have not used self tanners, or used a tanning bed in the past 4 weeks and that you do not have a tan. It is very important to stay out of the sun for a minimum of 4 weeks after your treatment as well as this could cause discoloration in the area treated. We recommend limited sun exposure 4 weeks prior, post and throughout the treatments series. If you cannot avoid sun exposure you should use a good quality minimum sun screen protection of 30 SPF.

  • Care should be taken to prevent trauma to the treated area for the first 24-48 hours following treatment. You may wash your face gently and apply moisturizers and makeup as long as the skin is not broken.
  • Do not rub or manipulate the area and do not use any exfoliating products for 2 weeks after your treatment.
  • Ice, chilled cold packs or wet wash cloth put in freezer for 2-3 minutes may be applied post-treatment as needed for comfort.
  • Treated spots usually darken after treatment, and crusting begins to form within a few days. This crusting usually resolves in 1 to 3 weeks. It should be allowed to naturally flake off for best results.
  • Localized erythema (redness or inflammation) may also be present and typically resolve 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs or spas for at least 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
  • If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply a topical antibiotic (such as Polysporin, Neosporin or Fucidin) and please contact us. Also, for further protection, keep the affected area covered and moist with Aquaphor and avoid direct sunlight while experiencing these symptoms.
  • The recommended time interval between treatments is 3 weeks or longer, once the crusting has cleared and the skin has healed.
  • Avoid artificial tanning, or excessive sun exposure following your treatment. Please use a good quality sunscreen minimum SPF 30.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office.
