Lip Enhancement with Juvéderm®

There are many reasons people consider lip enhancement. Natural substances that contribute to beautiful skin such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid decrease as we age making lips vulnerable to environmental factors such as sunlight, smoking and stress. The result: our lips become thinner, losing their youthful fullness. Juvéderm® Volbella® can be used to enhance the natural shape of the lips, to diminish vertical lip lines, to achieve symmetry, to accentuate the cupid’s bow or vermillion border of the lips and to increase fullness in the lips.

Juvéderm® Volbella® is the gold standard for lip enhancement. Designed specifically for lips, Juvéderm® Volbella® is designed using Juvéderm®’s unique Vycross® technology. Juvéderm® Volbella®is designed to result in less swelling and lip volume that looks and feels natural. The effect is instant and long lasting. Juvéderm® Volbella® is the only HA filler clinically proven to last up to 12 months in the lips with a single treatment. With the addition of lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, you will also enjoy greater comfort during your treatment.

Juvéderm® Volbella® is priced at $575 per syringe. Generally, one syringe is sufficient for treatment. If you are considering Juvéderm® Volbella® we invite you to book a complimentary consultation with Dr. Bowdridge.

To decrease the chance of bruising at the injection site, please avoid all NON-PRESCRIPTION blood thinning medications and supplements for 1 week prior to your Juvéderm® appointment. Avoid taking Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as such as Ibuprofen, Motrin and Aleve. In addition, very high doses of some Vitamins and supplements can thin your blood and increase the chance of bruising. Please notify Dr. Bowdridge if you are taking Warfarin, Coumadin, Plavix, or any other blood thinners for a medical condition.

  • For the first 24 hours following your treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, alcoholic beverages and Ibuprofen as these may increase the risk of bruising.
  • You can expect a little bit of swelling for 2 days following your treatment, however swelling is generally minimal.
  • Because Juvéderm® Volbella® contains lidocaine for extra comfort, you may have some numbness in the injected areas after your treatment. This will resolve in a few hours.
  • Be gentle with the area for the first few days following your treatment. You may wash your face and apply make-up as usual but try not to manipulate or rub the area excessively.
  • Refrain from excessive lip movement for 48 hours following your treatment, especially kissing, smoking and drinking out of a straw.
  • It is recommended that you sleep on your back for the first few days following your treatment. We recommend using the enVy – Anti-aging and Wellness Pillow to get the most out of your facial filler treatments.
  • Facials and facial laser treatments are not recommended for two weeks following Juvéderm® treatments.
  • Note that any bumps or marks from the needles will resolve themselves within a few hours.
  • If you do develop a bruise, it will resolve itself like any other bruise.
  • Juvéderm® results may last up to a year at which time re-treatment is recommended.

How does JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® work?

JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® is made from HA, a naturally occurring sugar found in your body which helps to maintain volume and elasticity in the skin. It is broken down by the body in one or two days and is constantly replaced. However, as we age, this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturizing and plumping effects of HA decrease. For this reason, HA is used in certain aesthetic treatments to help restore lost hydration and improve the skin's volume and texture.
